Failing Marriage? Tips on What to Do About it
There are lots of reasons why marriages fall apart. Some couples don't even know where things went wrong since the changes can be so subtle over time. By the time they figure out that there's a problem, they're already headed to divorce court. You'll know that your marriage is headed for trouble if you pay attention to a few signs though.
Lack of real communication is one of the first signs a marriage isn't as close as it once was. You two may disagree about certain things frequently. Arguing is a form of miscommunication. Your spouse may perceive your words differently even though you feel you're being clear. Instead of fighting with your spouse, make a commitment that you're not going to argue any more, even if you feel you've been wronged. You'll only end up being pushed farther apart.
Lack of romance can also destroy marriages. You'll have to admit that romance was the catalyst that got your together in the first place, but the feelings can go dormant if you don't work on them over the years. Other obligations will start taking priority over your intimate time together, things such as jobs and children. Your life may get in the way of you being romantic with your partner anymore. Your marriage will fall apart whenever this happens. This is something that can be fixed fortunately. Give your spouse a thoughtful gift. Even if you get little response from your spouse to start with, keep on with your efforts, and they will eventually pay off.
Are you realistic in your expectations from your marriage? It doesn't matter what other marriages are like. Don't go into a marriage thinking that your husband will act just like your best friend's husband. Like all human beings, your spouse is only human, and he or she may not be able to live up to your expectations if you set them too high. Instead of focusing only on the bad aspects of your partner, pay more attention to the good aspects. If you do this, then you two will always have a foundation upon which to base your love.
